Ted - Jack Russell/Pinscher cross

Ted is a 3 year old Jack Russell/Pinscher cross. He was left tied to the gate with both bones in his front leg broken. He has had an operation to correct this and is now perfectly fit and healthy. He has a plate in his leg - the vet would prefer to leave it but he has said that if it bothers him in extreme cold, it may need to be removed at a later date. He was fine in the heavy snow that fell at the refuge so Nicky feels, for the near future, there is no need.

He is very friendly with people and other dogs (no cats tho) but does need to know his position in the family. This is true for all dogs but in particular, for terriers. He is castrated, vaccinated and microchipped.

If you could give Ted a home - and what a great dog he is - please call Nicky at the number on the right.

Holly - beagle

Holly is a beautiful 4-year old beagle. She was terrorised when she arrived and is still the same with strangers but is very friendly with Nicky and those who work at the refuge. She needs company. She has never shown any agression in spite of being so scared. She needs a calm home. She is very loving.

If the home has a garden, it needs to be well fenced. She is not a dog to run away as such but if scared she could run and has escaped before to come and find us. She is sterilised, vaccinated, and microchipped. Please call Nicky at the number on the left if you'd like to visit Holly with a view to giving her a good home.

Puppies - Chipolate, Camelia, Crocus, Cosette, Carotte

Chipolata, above - full of mischief and always playing

You can read the history of these puppies in the entry called the Plastic Bag Puppies. If you feel you could give one of these gorgeous puppies a good home, please call Nicky at the number shown on the right.

Camelia, above - she loves being around her brothers and sisters *ADOPTED!*

Crocus, above - independant (you can read his particular history in the earlier posting about these pups who were put in a plastic bag to die).

Cosette, above - at three weeks she had a cold and was really quite ill - and so went everywhere with Nicky in a shoebox. She is completely better and very attached to human company. *ADOPTED!*

Carotte, above - very cuddly *ADOPTED!*

Puppies - Comete, Caviar, Candy, Cognac, Chutney

Chutney, above - a real pickle, the first to escape from anywhere and always on the go - consequently slightly slimmer than the others. *ADOPTED!*

These are four of the Plastic Bag puppies now ready to go - see earlier posting. Please call Nicky at the refuge if you feel you could give one of these gorgeous puppies a home.

Comete, above - she's always playful, jumping on other puppies and trying to eat Nicky's shoelaces. *ADOPTED!*

Caviar, above - the larger pup, a big ball of fluff and always the last to be caught to go back to bed! *ADOPTED!*

Candy, above - almost identical to Camelia but more independant and fluffier.

Cognac, above - independant, likes playing with older dogs and exploring.

The plastic bag puppies

These puppies were photographed at approximately 4 weeks. They are now around 6 weeks of age and will soon be looking for new homes. They were unwanted and had been put in a plastic bag in the garage to die. 24 hours later the woman who put them there found them still alive, so she went to the chemist to buy ether to kill them. Fortunately someone who knew the Refuge de Flassans heard the pups crying, and persuaded the woman to take them to the refuge. Two were dead in the bag but at present the other ten are doing really well.

One of the puppies, now called Crocus, was mauled by his mother before being put in the plastic bag. He arrived at the refuge with a bad bite wound in his leg. He also had the onset of an infection in the umbilical cord. When the pups arrived, they'd been in the bag over 24 hour and it took Nicky (who runs Flassans refuge) another 16 hours before she could get Crocus to drink anything, but once he started, he got going well. You'll find a photo below of Crocus drinking milk from a bowl. He is no longer the smallest of the litter and has been very healthy since his appalling beginning - obviously a real fighter for his life. Nicky says he's now the first to come to the front when she arrives.

The little one lying down - photo below - is Cognac who is now the smallest of the litter but very healthy too.

If you feel you could give a home to one of these puppies - please contact Nicky direct at the refuge - 06 86 35 93 83.

6 beautiful puppies for adoption!

CALINE - available for adoption *ADOPTED!*

These 6 puppies (an unwanted litter) were taken in by Le Refuge de Flassans, properly cared for and socialised and will be available for adoption in one week's time when they've been vaccinated and identified. Their mother is a Beauceron x Beagle and the father is a Labrador x Braque. You can see how some have picked up one or other parents' characteristics. If you feel you could give one of these beautiful and properly reared puppies a good home, please call Nicky direct. She is in charge of the refuge and has been caring for them. Nicky - 06 86 35 93 83. Speaks English and French. (All six puppies have now been adopted).

There are also 10 hunting dog cross puppies at the refuge - one-week old. They were unwanted and had been put in a plastic bag in the garage to die. 24 hours later the woman who put them there found them still alive, so she went to the chemist to buy ether to kill them. Fortunately someone who knew the Refuge de Flassans heard the pups and persuaded the woman to take them to the refuge. Two were dead in the bag but at present the other ten are doing well. Photos will be available when they are older.

Cassie - Mix - *ADOPTED!*

Cassie is 7 weeks of age. She's a lovely mixture of breeds, perhaps some braque and some berger in her. She's adorable and Nicky who cares for her says she has a very sweet temperament and she doesn't think she'll get bigger than a medium sized dog but obviously no guarantees. She's great fun and never keeps still, hence the photographs - as Nicky says - not being very good. Are you looking for a puppy? Look no further! Call Nicky and arrange to go see her. *ADOPTED!*

Pollux - Shih-tzu X Llasa Apso *ADOPTED*

Pollux was found wandering outside the refuge. He appeared to have had a broken leg at some stage but has since been x-rayed and he was apparently born with a small deformity. This doesn't cause him any pain. He gets on really well with people, dogs and cats although sometimes he'll bark at a cat - that's all. He'd make a lovely pet.

14 June 2007

BELLA - Bichon frisé - *ADOPTED*

This is Bella, a beautiful and friendly little Bichon Frisé. Very cuddly and attached to people. Gets on with other dogs and also with cats. She's a happy little dog. Barks if left so perhaps more suitable for a retired person. Also no house training needed - Bella is around 10 years old but lots of life in her yet. How she'd love a home of her own.

Hubert - St. Hubert cross

Hubert is a St.Hubert cross! He is about 4 years. He loves to play. He always has a ball in his mouth. He is quite wary of people, especially those that he does not know, but has never shown any aggression, he tries to run from people he doesn't know. He needs someone who is prepared to put in some time to re build his confidence as he is scared of going on walks etc. He would need an encloseed garden to play in.

Note from Jilly: I adopted a St. Hubert and a Bruno de Jura from Flassans. Hounds make great family pets. Bimbo (Beau) was scared too at the beginning but now: - confidence and love guaranteed!

Rambo - Shepherd cross

Rambo is about 6 years old. A Shepherd cross. He needs a special home. He has been very badly treated - the end result of this was that his ear was cut off to avoid being identified by his tattoo number. He needs a quiet home where his confidence can be rebuilt. He is friendly and has never shown aggression in spite of the treatment he's received, but is very fearful and often hides in his kennel. He is fine with female dogs but would have to be tested with a male. Best that he is not placed in a family with young children.

Sherlock - German Shepherd

Sherlock is about 9 years old. German Shepherd. Very friendly. He is not aggressive with other dogs but does provoke them into attacking him so any placement with other dogs would have to be tested. He is friendly and loves cuddles and food!

Bob - Shepherd cross

Bob is a shepherd cross of about 5 years. He is very friendly. He shares a cage with two other males with no problems at all. He should get on with most other dogs. He is a very soft dog and lets you do anything - even administering medication which isn't always the favourite thing! He is not very good on the lead at the moment but just needs to be out of the cage and have more practise at it.

Ange - Dogue Argentin

Ange is a four year old pedigree Dogue Argentin. He had hip dysplasia which was operated on and has had several placements. He CANNOT go to anyone with other dogs and it would be better if he did not go to a home with children. He is however very gentle and playful with people that he knows. He loves cuddles and tries to climb on your lap!

Garth - Small cross breed

Garth - a lovely dog of about 3 years who would love an active family life or maybe even be trained in agility. He loves cuddles and to run! He is always happy to see you and climb on your lap - He also loves to play in the water so you can sometimes end up a bit soggy after his cuddles! Garth is quite a small dog - only about 15 kilos

Robert - Bull Mastiff X

Robert is a Category 1 dog and may not be adopted

Really friendly dog. Just look at that face - this dog will give you so much back in love - please consider him. Robert is about 6 years old, castrated, tattooed, vaccinated, lovely dog. Loves to play especially with water. He can only be placed under certain conditions due to him being a mastiff cross (premier categorie) but this can be discussed with anyone interested. Because of this he may need to be an only dog and no children - unless the placement is exceptional. He has not shown agression towards children or to other dogs except over food but with the conditions of placement he will have to remain the responsibility of the refuge, as an add on to this, he must have an enclosed garden

Croc Blanc - Berger Suisse

Beautiful male Berger Suisse, currently kennelled with a female. He's a really sweet dog - do consider giving him a home. Croc Blanc is about 4 years old. He came to us in about April or May last year from the pound where he had passed his delay and was going to be put down. He was very thin and stressed - He had wounds to his nose caused by the bars of the cage at the pound. He is a very playful dog but very friendly - except with other males. He cannot be placed with very young children as he can be a bit over excited and would be likely to knock them over. He is castrated, tattooed, vaccinated. He settles well to walking on the lead once he has been out of the cage for a few minutes. He loves to get dirty and usually manages to find mud where there is none!
